MemoryString is a macOS app published by Zach Pickholz. It turns photos and videos on your Mac into slideshows. This policy covers the app, not the public website that hosts this page.
Your media stays on your Mac
Photos, videos, music, projects, and exported movies are read and written only on your computer, at locations you choose. I do not upload your files to my servers. There is no MemoryString account, cloud library, or analytics pipeline inside the app.
Location from photos, not from you
If a photo already contains GPS in its file metadata, MemoryString may use that to name a city or country in Auto Caption. The app does not read your current location and does not send coordinates anywhere.
Speech
On-device speech detection is used only to help decide mute versus keep audio on clips. MemoryString does not transcribe speech, does not save what was said, and does not send audio to me or to a third-party speech service.
Optional local MCP server
If you turn on MCP Server, MemoryString listens only on your Mac (localhost) so tools you run yourself can talk to the app. That connection does not go through my servers. A token stored on your Mac authenticates those local requests.
Bundled music
The in-app soundtrack library is royalty-free audio shipped with the app. It is not collected from you.
